As part of MyVest’s commitment to making the place we live even better, we’ve been long-time supporters of SF-Marin Food Bank’s annual holiday food drive. This year we decided to get involved in a more hands-on way and began a monthly volunteering program at the San Francisco warehouse.

Our first group of volunteers showed up bright and early on a chilly February morning to lend a hand. You never know what you’ll be doing when you volunteer at the food bank — packing produce? Assembling grocery boxes? Sorting donations? It turns out the day’s task was to scoop, weigh, bag, label, and pack frozen corn. Brrr!

The team worked diligently to prepare more than 13,000 lbs. of frozen corn — that’s 6 ½ tons of corn! The final product ultimately ends up at schools, churches, and food banks to help fight hunger throughout San Francisco and Marin County.

Not only is it incredibly rewarding to help our local community, but it’s a fantastic way to for MyVestors to get to know team members they may not work with every day. We can’t wait for next month’s trip! (We’re all dressing for frozen corn duty, just in case.)
